Chiltern Water Management provides a confidential and independent consultancy specialising in the management of water supplies and environmental monitoring.
Services provided include:
Sampling and Analysis of Water
We undertake UKAS accredited chemical and microbiological analyses of water. Test
certificates are issued with reference to relevant Standards or Codes of Practice,
such as L8. Analysis can be carried out on the following:
• Drinking water for compliance with water quality regulations, including EC Directives.
• Legionella examination with issue of Test Certificates, as required by the Care
Quality Commission (CQC).
• Vending machines for compliance with the relevant Codes of Practice.
• Purified water for compliance with BP, JP, PhEur and USP specifications.
• Swimming pools and bathing waters for compliance with relevant standards.
• Natural waters, waste waters and effluents for compliance with environmental standards
and discharge consents.
• Primary heating and cooling water to check for levels of inhibitor and corrosion.
Legionella and Water Hygiene Risk Assessment
Risk assessment involves the survey of water services for compliance with guidelines given in L8 (formerly HSG70). Assessment is made in relation to the risk of proliferation of the Legionella bacteria, the degree of exposure and susceptibility of those who may become exposed. Recommendations for any remedial action will be made.
Guidance will also be given on the requirements for monitoring and record keeping, as described in L8.
A log book and schematic diagram of the water services can be produced.
Investigation into Specific Water Quality Problems
This involves a site investigation and some laboratory tests relevant to the nature
of the problem. Most problems relate to the aesthetic quality of the water, i.e.
its taste, odour or appearance, and may be due to corrosion problems, the proliferation
of bacteria or chemical contamination. The test results will be reported together
with recommendations for any remedial action.
Health concerns, such as lead in water and bacteriological quality, can also be checked.
Chlorination of Water Services
We can carry out the chlorination of mains supplies, cold water storage tanks, hot and cold down services in accordance with L8, (formerly HSG70) BS 6700, or HTM 20 with issue of chlorination certificates.
Identification of Unknown Sources of Water
This involves some site tests and laboratory examination of representative samples to establish the origin of an unknown source of water. For example, a water sample may be characterised as surface run-off, natural groundwater, mains water or drainage water.
Supply of Small Scale Treatment Units
We can supply small scale filters from stock. Units are available for:
Taste improvement
Taste improvement and scale control
Taste improvement and heavy metals removal
Sediment removal (5 micron)
Removal of micro-organisms (0.2 micron)
Supply of Treatment Chemicals and Test Reagents
We can supply the following:
Drinking water and swimming pool treatment chemicals
Test reagents for on-site tests, such as chlorine residuals, pH and hardness
Salt for water softener regeneration
Corrosion inhibitor and antifreeze for primary heating and chiller units
